On April 6, 2006 by ordinance of the city council of Mar del Plata, city where Astor Piazzolla was born on March 11, 1921, it is requested from the federal government of Argentina, through the Ministry of Defense, that the Mar del Plata International Airport be renamed "Astor Piazzolla Airport".
