Style: The 'New' Piazzolla and the Octet (1956-1959)
Comments: (These are my notes) This CD contains no information. Tracks 2,3,4,6,7,8,9,11 were recorded in 1957 in Montevideo, Uruguay, for the label Antar-Telefunken. That explains Piazzolla composing/playing a 'candombe' (Yo Soy el Negro). The original Uruguayan release was a 7-inch 33 rpm LP titled "Lo que Vendra". Personnel on those tracks is A. Piazzolla: bandoneon, Elvino Vardaro: violin, Jaime Gosis: piano, Jose Bragato: cello, Juan Vasallo: bass, and Jorge Sobral: voice, plus "String Orchestra". Tracks 1 and 5 were also recorded in Montevideo for Antar-Telefunken. Personnel are: A. Piazzolla: bandoneon, E. Vardaro: violin, J. Gosis: piano, Quicho Diaz: bass, Jorge Lopez Ruiz (sic): guitar (actually Oscar Lopez Ruiz), and Hector de Rosas: voice. According to the discography compiled by Diana Piazzolla these two tracks were recorded in 1959 or 1960 (most likely) during the second 'Montevideo Sessions'. Tracks 10 and 12 are hard to place. They are probably from that second '
Montevideo Session' also. The version of Bando is by quintet and definitely different from both the Paris version and the 1960 quintet version in 'Piazzolla interpreta Piazzolla' . Contrastes is difficult to place, it is different from the 1955 version, and it does not appear on any other LP of the 1957-1960 period. The fact that it appears at the end of a selection which includes the 1957 "Lo que vendra" leads me to believe that it is an unreleased track belonging to the 1957 recording, or possibly a mislabeled track.
